Students who complete a FAFSA and indicate an interest in Workstudy may receive Workstudy as part of their financial aid award. "Workstudy" is a job on campus (there may be placements in the community with pre-approved non-profit agencies), beginning at minimum wage, and students may only work during the semester, no more than 20 hours per week. It is a great opportunity for students to develop work skills, be a part of the NMSU community, network, and create future references.

Students must do several things before they may begin working at NMSU Grants - see the NMSU Workstudy link, http://fa.nmsu.edu/ws.html for how to proceed.

At NMSU Grants, we offer on average 25 student employment positions each Fall and Spring semester, including state workstudy, federal workstudy, non-need based workstudy, and other student employment. Therefore those students who submit the workstudy application (available in the Front Office) and arrange with an office or program manager to be hired are the students who will fill these limited positions.

Offices and departments that often hire students are:

Library
Student Services Office
Student Success Center (prefers students who have completed one year of college and higher MATH and ENGLISH)
Instructional Technology
Math Lab - for MATH tudors
Automotive
Welding
Electronics/Electrical
Nursing
Computer Technology/Creative Media Technology
Humanities Department
Science Department
Math Department
Criminal Justice Department
GED/ABE Office
Facilities

Students are encouraged to submit the application before the semester begins and to meet with the Department. Each Department may be looking for specific skills and work attributes or have specific requirements.

NMSU Grants is allocated a certain amount of these employment dollars and departments must also budget for a workstudy. These funds go fast and the Office of Financial Aid will work to receive as much allocation as we are eligible for.
